A strategic process in which two or more companies combine to form a single, unified entity. The goal of a merger is often to achieve growth, gain competitive advantages, expand market reach, or acquire new assets and resources. In a merger, the companies involved usually agree to join forces voluntarily, sharing ownership, management, and operations of the newly combined organization. There are three types of mergers (1) a Horizontal Merger between two companies in the same industry or market (2) a Vertical Merger between two companies at different stages in the industry’s supply chain (3) a Conglomerate Merger between two companies that operate in unrelated industries.
